We talk a lot here about the way we raise our girls. We want them to dream big, we want them to love others, we want them to express tolerance and compassion. I am a firm believer that the best way they'll learn these things is by example. Although we fail at times, Phil and I try hard to be good role models for our girls. We try to live lives that exude those qualities. Over the past couple years we have come across some wonderful books. Addie loves to read and Ingrid is getting more and more interested, too. Here are a few of our favorite books that express the "dream big" philosophy we want our girls to possess...
Whoever You Are by Mem Fox is so lovely. This book is all about celebrating similarities and differences with people all over the world. "Their skin may be different from yours, and their homes may be different from yours. Their schools may be different from yours, and their lands may be different from yours... But inside, their hearts are just like yours, whoever they are, wherever they are, all over the world." The illustrations are awesome, too.
Another favorite is The Peace Book by Todd Parr. All of his books are great! This book has cute little illustrations on each page of something that "peace is." My favorite pages... "Peace is new babies being born." "Peace is growing a garden." and "Peace is having enough pizza for everyone."
God's Dream by Desmond Tutu is another favorite. I first bought this for Addie when she was just a few weeks old. It used to make be cry every time I read it. This book is super sweet, as well. It talks all about God's dream of everyone sharing, caring, and loving. It's really wonderful. "Do you dream of reaching across the sky? Do you dream of doing what your heart desires? Do you dream of being treated as a whole person?"
If you're starting a library or looking to give a great book to a friend, I highly recommend each of these! What are your favorite books for raising dreamers? I'd love to hear!

I am a kindergarten teacher turned full-time mama, and "Whoever you Are" by Mem Fox was one of my favorites in thehe classroom, and now at home! I also cried every time I read "Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon" by Patty Lovell. I loved that it became one of my students' favorites because they loved the message! A new favorite for my almost-two year old is "The Moon Shines Down" by Margaret Wise Brown. So many lovely books, I'll stop there! I am going to have to check out the Desmond TuTu one, thanks!!
Thanks for this post Lacy! As a fellow dreamer I can't wait to get my hands on these books to read to our little guy.
