Favorite Blog: Fox in the Pine

Hello, friends! I'm excited to start a fun new series, featuring some of my favorite blogs on the web. They'll share with you a little bit about their blog, some writing advice for new or wannabe bloggers, and how they live on love.

Here's one of my most recent new favs, Fox in the Pine. I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this wonderful space, but it's now a daily read. Each post from Catherine inspires me to go and do - whether it's an outdoor adventure, making something delicious in the kitchen, or spending time with Phil. Some of my favorite posts from Fox in the Pine include their stay in a treehouse, this huge balloon DIY, and this yummy apple potato gratin recipe (which I have made twice now!) In addition, her Friday posts are wonderful and if you love cats, be sure to read her blog on Saturday Caturday.

My name is Cat and I am excited to introduce you to my blog, Fox in the Pine.  I'd first like to acquaint you with a couple of characters who make frequent appearances.  Foxy, the cat, is my fluffy, slightly overweight sidekick. Hans, the human, is my handsome, nature-loving, handyman husband.  Together, we three make a group of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed adventurers who attempt to enjoy every morsel of life…and tuna.

On Fox in the Pine I feature the work of other artists from around the inter-webs, as well as aspects of my life, including travel, my artwork, my creations, photo shoots, recipes, and woodsy adventures.
I was waffling over whether to start a blog or not, but ultimately, it was a good way to keep my creative juices flowing, put my degree in art to use and also document bits and pieces of our lives. My little family was fully supportive, especially Foxy, as she needed my opposable thumbs to get internet famous.

If you’re thinking of starting a blog, and you need some writing advice, there is a 75% chance that you shouldn’t listen to my advice, and a 115% chance I did not get a degree in English, nor am I good at math, as you may have surmised.

But, if I must give writing advice, I would say that your first order of business is to find something to write about. To do so, revert back to a time in your life when you were interesting (for some of you this may be very difficult). In my life, that would be the span of time between the ages of seven and ten, which is why I write entirely too much about kittens, forts, and summer camp. Regardless of what you think others will like, write and create things that interest or inspire you. Do what you’re passionate about. Research what you are passionate about. Live what you’re passionate about. Your blog is your tiny speck of the inter-webs, and trust me, there will always be other strange people, like you, interested in the same things. Even if they are only seven years old…

Which brings me to how my husband and I live on love. Hans, and I try to stay unconventional and live spontaneous. Attempting to stay young forever by keeping adventure in our bones and stress and adulthood at bay. We build our lives with one another and spend everyday together, swirling and dipping in the kitchen, jumping on our bed, and staying up entirely too late talking. We relish in each other’s unique and strange ways while straying from any expectations from society that seem a burden. We do what makes us happy, trying to keep our life simple and balanced, yet meaningful. This is our path to living on love.
