Tomorrow, you turn two.
I've tried writing this letter nearly a thousand times and each go leaves me with watery eyes and without words.
There are so many things to tell you. There are things I want you to know about yourself at this age. There are things you need to know about how much your daddy and I love you. There are things you'll never understand, unless you have children of your own someday. So, I guess I'm going to tell you it all.
First of all, I can't believe it has already been two years since the day you came into our lives and into this world. That day will always be freeze-framed in my memory because it forever changed who I was, who I am. Giving you life is the greatest thing I have ever done. That single event has brought me more peace and more pride and more connectedness with this world. I see more clearly, I believe more clearly. I love more deeply. I am a better person, because of that. I've told you this before but I need to tell you again. You made me a mama. You taught me how to be a mama, how to be your mama. You changed my world in so many miraculous ways.
Right now, you are wonderful. You are sensitive and brave and funny and so full of love. You love movies, hot dogs, and your baby sister. Your daddy is your favorite person ever. You get really sad if someone pushes or nudges you. You always want to go on drives to "find a deer" or a "chicken-goat!" You are sensitive but oh so tough. You say funny things like "watch-out-ya-head," "everybody poops!" "havey booger?" and "Mommy strong!" (Darn, right!) You ask your daddy and me everyday if you're brave. And you are. You are so brave. You love the Mizzou tigers and wrestling with your daddy. You read like it's your job. You have stolen nearly all of the coins from our bucket of change and put them in your doggy bank. You love playing in the bath but hate washing your hair. You are completely impatient when it's almost time for dinner. You have the coolest, self-styling hair and people comment on it all the time. You like to point out when other kids are whining or crying. Every time you see or hear a fire truck you exclaim that someone needs "help!" You hate anything on your head or in your hair. Every night you rehearse all the names of your relatives, and go faster and faster each time until eventually you're upset. (Reason unknown!) You repeat all of the things I say like "Alright!" or "No ma'am" or "sound good?"I'm pretty sure you spend most of your quiet time dreaming about movies and food. You like to brush your teeth but hate to sit on the toilet. You have learned to put yourself in time out (timey) which is both really sad and hilarious at the same time. You love to explore and ask almost daily for caves, sinkholes, squirrels, and bats. You love to sleep and even ask for naps. (!) You, my darling, are wonderful. You are beautiful. You are smart. You are brave.
I have never loved someone the way I love you.
Happy birthday!
